In Aug 2017— half a year into Donald Trump’s presidency— a solar eclipse would cross the United States coast to coast, and our team saw an opportunity to capture a brief moment of collective wonder during this once-in-a-lifetime, celestial event. We sent out over 20 videographers to various locations across the “path of totality” with the goal of flipping the short doc within a week of the eclipse. The predictability of the eclipse made it easy to equip video producers with specific shot lists and to imagine a loose storyboard to guide the edit. After a few days of editing (lots) and sleeping (little), we published this piece six days after the eclipse.
This is one of roughly a dozen shot lists we shared with video producers. We did get that “money quote” from Bill Nye.
